“When they went up into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:32-33)
I learned that this was the first time the disciples addressed Jesus using His full title, “Son of God.” The disciples must have been so terrified when their lives were on the line, being tossed and turned about in the sea. From experiencing the darkest moment to the brightest hope, they confessed with their mouth, “Jesus, you are truly the Son of God!”
Our focus of this passage has mostly been about Jesus walking on water. Yet, the climax of this story was the disciples’ worship of Him. They found what they had been looking for all their lives. A living hope, an eternal hope.
There is no longer any reason to fear in the darkest moments. Even if we perish physically, our spirit lives on in eternity. Even if our loved ones suffer, we know the Lord will take care of them when we cannot. When we look to Christ, our Savior and Lord, there is joy to be had in all circumstances.
This is the hope none can find other than in Christ. Indeed, we can be happy with recreation, money, hobbies, and even some mild addictions – but there is a compelling reason for us to present Christ to the lost world.
