Real Pressure

“He said to him, “This is what Ben Hadad says, ‘Your silver and your gold are mine, as well as the best of your wives and sons.’” The king of Israel replied, “It is just as you say, my master, O king. I and all I own belong to you.”” (1 Kings 20:3-4)

“If God may not rule us, our enemies shall.” (Matthew Henry)

I cannot help but feel sorry for King Ahab.  A foreign king by the name of Ben robbed him and stripped him of all dignity a man is entitled to as God’s most precious creation. King Ahab sounded pathetic when he gave in to Ben’s demand.  “My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.”

King Ahab was once a worshiper of Baal. He leaned on a false god that can only give him false strength. Under real pressure, his first instinct was to surrender. He’s got nothing in him to stand and fight.

Many people might tell of their allegiance to their gods. Yet, it’s only a matter of time when the real pressure storms in like a towering tsunami. They will find themselves at their wit’s end, giving in to the demand of the force they could not withstand.

Believe in our Lord God, trust completely in Him.  When the real pressure comes, you will find a surge of strength, a surge of hope, a surge of courage to stand, and to stand firm.
