“When Jesus came to the area of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15)
I am very easy-going; yet I would not just randomly go to any doctors, hire any contractors, or even get a haircut without at least looking over their references. Well, I am happy with just one good review. And two good reviews? I am sold.
It remains a profound mystery to me that some fishermen would give up their livelihood the moment Jesus extended his invitation. “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) What is even more inexplicable was that after months of following Jesus, they were still quite clueless as to who he really was. There were all these speculations about his true identity.
I have met people that told me, “I don’t know enough about this Jesus. I can’t follow someone that I don’t know much about.” Neither did these disciples of Jesus for some time. Yet they went on to change the world.
Last time I checked, Jesus has millions and millions of good reviews. To believe or not to believe, it is probably not a hard decision.
